Headlines re the invasion show disconnect between media and reality

The news feed at charter.net -- the window containing headlines, sometimes with story summaries and pics -- is quite useful for different purposes than intended. Again today there's real
cognitive dissonance there: A mysterious, ominous, doleful headline, "Hispanic students disappearing from schools."

What could it mean? Some evil white supremacist neo-Nazi gunning them down as they leave their cases each day for la escuela? A disease that only effects those of "Spanish" descent? No, the answer came via the measurably real-world oriented Cowboy Byte site:

Hispanics leave school in face of Alabama’s tough immigration law
http://cowboybyte.com/1090/hispanics-leave-school-in-face-of-alabamas-tough-immigration-law/

Hispanic students did not show up for school in noticeable numbers Thursday and Friday in Alabama following a federal judge’s ruling Wednesday that upheld several provisions of a harsh state law restricting illegal immigration in the state.

The absence of Hispanic students has many education leaders worried that immigrant families are withdrawing their children from school to prevent state authorities from looking into their legal status. The Pew Hispanic Center says the number of illegal immigrants in Alabama rose 380 percent between 2000-2010, from 25,000 to 120,000, and that illegals represent 2.5 percent of the total state population today......

Those poor bereft "education leaders"! I feel their pain since their budgets are written according to how many sacrificial victims they place behind school desks each year. I guess they're not worried about the actually American children who have to put up with the chaos that comes with bilingualism and multiculturalism from preschool on. They sense they're rats in the in the great social engineering lab of the "new" world order even if their parents never do.

Kudos to Alabama for doing the politically incorrect but urgently needed thing! Which state will win the unofficial "most classically Southern" contest? SC's politicians don't always seem equally passionate about SC taking the prize.

On that note, some really beautiful Peach State news via SHNV:

'Johnny Reb' is back
http://www.accessnorthga.com/detail.php?n=242410

JEFFERSON - The Square in downtown Jefferson filled with an audience Saturday that came to witness the unveiling of Jefferson’s new Civil War icon, a bronze likeness of a Johnny Reb infantryman from Jackson County. The original was accidentally torn down 71 years ago in 1940.

Jackson County Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 94 members launched the funding campaign that raised the money for the statue according to Chapter Commander Steve Satterfield.

“We just felt like the statue was the best thing we could give to the city and to honor the men who served,” Satterfield said. “We just wanted our statue back”......

SHNV = Southern Heritage News and Views, an email digest I can't recommend highly enough. With sly irony the above item was placed below this one in its links section today:

The South is the real America. Every American used to know it!

Several of Dixie's best defenders are Northerners with no Southern roots, like SHNV regular Bill Vallante:

To think that the Georgia dedication came about because Sons of Confederate Veterans members raised the money and pushed the project through! Normally the group ranges from politically OK to politically aloof.

Perhaps these guys don't realize what a revolutionary and "political" act they've just committed? It is especially welcome in the wake of an outrage in Reidsville, NC last week: some lowlife drove his car into the downtown's Confederate monument and destroyed it, but it will not be rebuilt. The United Daughters of the Confederacy, the even more wimpish female equivalent to the SCV, was found to be the owner, and they elected to have it rebuilt in a graveyard since it was "offending people" downtown. Isn't that just lovely? With friends like those, does Dixie need enemies?

More on the Latin front.... this "best of times, worst of times" story courtesy of the visionary anunews.org:

Latin America: Growth, Stability and Inequalities: Lessons for the US and EU
http://libertarianalliance.wordpress.com/2011/10/01/latin-america-growth-stability-and-inequalities-lessons-for-the-us-and-eu/

Serious bad news for the arrogant and bloated USA and Europe, but great news for half a billion people for whom those entities have often been the source of misery, oppression and even environmental harm. "Except for US backed coups in Honduras and intervention in Haiti and Venezuela, violent seizures of power have disappeared over the past decade."

Isn't it indeed remarkable how quickly most of those 20 countries are becoming havens of well-being? Chile, arguably still the prize of them all, has sometimes been called "a good country in a bad neighborhood", but nowadays its neighbors Ecuador, Peru and even Colombia are being hawked as great destinations for expatriation. Argentina is too insofar as its USA-style politicians aren't ruining the place. Let's just hope that as the US and EU fall they don't take Latinoamerica down with them or (for instance) that China doesn't rush to fill the vacuum.

It's hard to find anything in this piece to disagree with despite its left-scented references to democracy. "The very successes of the US and EU countries," says the writer (James Petras),

the enormous easy gains from pillage, speculation, and exploitation led to the dominance of financial capital and the belief in an irrevocable “new world order”. The dominance of the US and EU was built on their military superiority backed by pliant, collaborative, neo-liberal client regimes. The ‘new order’ lasted less than a decade: the economic crises of 1999/2000 smashed the illusions of a century of imperial grandeur. As markets collapsed so too did the Latin American oligarchic electoral regimes (dubbed “democracies”) which along with the financial elite and the military formed the triple alliance that defined Western supremacy. The final blow was the economic crises of 2001-2002 in the US and EU which steeply eroded their capacity to intervene and prop up their collapsing Latin clients ousted by rebellious masses.

I'm not a "blame America first" person but I do believe (in stark contrast to millions of others who claim the conservative label) in blaming America for her real evils. Tragically, that works out to the same thing a great deal of the time, making liberals look less totally brainless. They excoriate America because they hate it; if we do, it's because we love it and want it to quit its life of crime.

We looked at some great stuff in http://www.commieblaster.com the other day, and there's some HOT stuff there right now:
