What will become of the IRS guilt show?

You know by now that I don't have a TV on principle -- so I haven't seen any of the coverage of the hearings on the culpability of top tax torturer Lois Lerner. For anybody else who hasn't, a couple of hot links that seem to summarize the piece well:

Issa, Democrats Clash at IRS Hearing After Lerner Pleads Fifth

Darrell Issa Holds Absurd IRS Hearing In Which He Is The Only One Allowed To Speak

It's fun trying to figure out who's reading which script here. Obviously Lerner and Issa have it made in the shade, being tasked by the System with obfuscating System evil. But Issa is a rarity among fedniks -- a self-made millionaire merchant of Lebanese and Mormon background, not a lawyer. He plays the part of righteous, embarrassed referee beautifully, except that he's as guilty as Lerner in making secrecy the default position.

A weird sidelight is his grand theft auto and hit-and-run record. A comment mentioned it and Wikipedia affirms it. An early section of his bio there may explain his easy rise into political glory and renown:

The family moved to the predominantly Jewish suburb of Cleveland Heights in the later years of his childhood. Many of his friends were Jewish, and Issa reportedly worked for a rabbi at one point. He became very familiar with Jewish culture.

Elijah Cummings is a lawyer and also highly unusual in that it's almost unheard-of for any minority member to take a stand for freedom. I suppose it would be ignoble to ask where have these truth seekers have been the entire time the IRS has been vampirizing citizens if they're so concerned about the present scandal.

The bottom line is that that neither party is making sure this issue is seen through to a lawful conclusion. The twenty-first century was supposed to be a golden age of liberation and unfettered progress, but so far it's merely seen both the Demopublicans and Republicrats turn to mush as Pezidential power has burst all boundaries and become open, outright dictatorship.

Wasn't it Slick Willy who used to run around giving speeches telling us to focus our eyes on our glorious future? The future, the future, see how it gleams in spite of present woes -- that was his answer for everything he wanted to squelch. He also pioneered this "move on" thing, saying it's "time to move on" from any mention of crimes for which he'd been grossly embarrassed already but unindicted.
