Real progress for SC and other states in the midst of Federal self-destruction

It takes a lot to get me politically excited. I really didn't know how to rate the new law virtually banning voice votes in the SC legislature, even it came out that our lovely and gracious new governatrix approved it. But since I learned the measure had the SC Policy Council's backing, I'm sold.

I'm like the doctor -- I've seen it all, including the spectacle of many a move among the people (such as the Tea Party building frantic steam maybe even briefly rattling the Establishment, and then sinking back beneath the waves of oblivion. And in spite of the dead wood that remains in the SC legislature, I think great things are indeed in store as certain incurable optimists keep asserting.

Here's the latest from a fine and dedicated young doer in Columbia area:

Friends of South Carolina!

CHAAAAAAARGE!

Fresh of the Roll Call accountability victory, it is not time to rest on our laurels! Get ready for the next charge into battle!

Meet me at the State House 1st floor lobby Wednesday April 20th at 1:00 p.m. for a press conference announcing the next battle for transparency and accountability in South Carolina.

The historic Roll Call bill, which the Governor signed into law last week, changed the face of politics in South Carolina forever. We now have the tools to know how our legislators vote on every new law that is passed and on every section of the budget.

It was a huge transfer of power from the General Assembly, back to the people. But it is just the beginning!

There is more to the accumulation of power in Columbia than their vote on new laws and the budget. The strongest power and influence is wielded behind closed doors by a select few, without the knowledge of the rest of our representatives. It is time to remove the power of the few and return it to the people.

This next step will make the Roll Call bill look like a baby step compared to the giant leap forward that will be announced.

So if you want to hear this first hand, be at the press conference for this announcement. You will not be sorry you were there!

So meet me at the State House 1st floor lobby Wednesday April 20th at 1:00 p.m. for a press conference announcing the next battle for transparency and accountability in South Carolina.

Let’s put political power back where it belongs… In the hands of the people!

Thanks for all you do!

Talbert Black, Jr.

He doesn't give us much to go on, but I have no doubt they're thinking big down there and ready to push this state a lot further where it needs to go (hopefully involving gold and silver at some point).

..................This just in via a great controversialist, Robert Weinert:

Another Japanese Tsunami Video - Devastating Destruction

It's tragic. There but for the grace of God go you -- or I, frantically running for higher ground and then seeing your house become merely one more crumb in the tsunami water's "garbage patch" of buildings, cars and other expensive items.

It's healthy to study the power of nature and the many follies of mankind, while resisting the pull toward judgmentalism and self-satisfaction. (My comments, not Robert's.)

...................Something I enjoy doing in the Southern Heritage News and Views email digest is tallying "accidental polls" in our favor -- surveys that emerge via news, email or whatever that affirm Southern or freedom values, etc. despite being dedicated to other subjects totally unrelated to these, or even opposed to them!

For instance, there have been numerous polls on which states or regions in the USA have people that are statistically the most generous (charitable giving), the most polite (based on tourist questionnaires or interviews), etc. etc. These polls are often done by Northerners but overwhelmingly favor our region and prove afresh that Southern goodness and decency are no myths!

Another one arrived today. I'm guessing it's the work of a young hot shot Republican jingoist and feel safe in telling you he's a yankee. Oh, he's a warmonger and scorns liberals' environmentalism (I scorn what they do with it, but not the 'ism itself).... I was a war hawk too as a high schooler, believe it or not!

Anyhoo, the beautiful thing is that he -- while not saying a word about the Southern mystique or Confederate valor -- manages to settle on two Southern states and a former Confederate one as highly desirable.

Laugh with me at his excesses -- revel with me in his serendipity.
